It is what it is …

Whilst facilitating one of my Vision Boarding workshops at the beginning of the year, for the first time ever I couldn’t imagine my future. I realised that I had no idea what that even looked like anymore. I was engulfed in sadness and took it as a huge wake-up call for me, as I am a firm believer in creating my own journey.

How often have you heard the expression ‘it is what it is’? Many believe it is merely a way of accepting what is currently happening in our life with no judgement, giving it no energy, and allowing life to unfold with a knowing that something beyond our control may be occurring. I do not find this an easy process by any stretch of the imagination, the moving forward angle takes some doing, and I question whether in the process I am relinquishing personal responsibility and being a victim.

On a recent trip back to the UK, where I was blessed to become a godparent to my beautiful niece Matilda, I heard a different version of the saying that makes far more sense to me. And I have been pondering on it ever since.

It is what it is until it isn’t anymore.

I recognised that by working with ‘it is what it is’ I was giving my power away. Since the new ending to this phrase, I have found I have taken back control and made an effort to change my circumstances, without being stuck in the inevitable drama.

In the months that followed my wake-up call, I have been faced with a huge number of challenges, which at times have felt insurmountable. Graciously accepting support from ‘my tribe’, (my family and friends), enabled me to pick myself up and get focusing on the many blessings in my life. I can also now reflect on the part I played in the events that have occurred, and I am finally getting to a place where ‘it isn’t anymore.’ The issues may still be ongoing; however, the emotional aspect is dissipating.

Moving forward

Moving forward with my life I am seeing the lessons, as well as noticing the tools I have gathered within my professional life, which in turn opens new doors and adventures. I am finally heading towards choice once again and my vision for my future is reappearing!

Question: Where are you remaining stuck? Are you able to get on with your life even though there are challenges? What internal work can you do whilst the challenges are occurring?
